Professionalism – We back our horses. Enough said.
Where a Cowboy's Handshake is His Word
Rustin Lucas & Aaron CourchesneRusty grew up deep in the Porcupine Hills on Lucasia Ranch where his love for raising horses and ranching first blossomed. Rusty grew up with a rope in his hand, so it came as no surprise when he qualified for the High School National Finals in team-roping and steer wrestling through-out his high school years.

Aaron grew up on a mixed farm in Northern Alberta, where she competed in everything from gymkhana and western performance to rodeo queen competitions. After completing a Horsemanship major through NAIT, Aaron knew training horses and competing in barrel racing were her hearts aspiration. First she moved to Stavely, Alberta to complete another life-long goal to become Miss Rodeo Canada. Aaron won Miss Rodeo Okotoks in 2007 and went on to become Miss Rodeo Canada in 2009. Now Aaron is on to the next chapter, raising three boys with Rusty and riding young prospects.

Naturally Aaron and Rusty met at the Claresholm Agri-plex where Rusty roped and Aaron trained colts; they will be married on September 10th, 2011 at the Historic Bar U Ranch.

Combining Rusty’s love for horse breeding and Aaron’s desire to train and barrel race, Swirl Brand Speed Horses was born. The main focus being a program that would produce “good using horses,” that can be used on the ranch, as well as roping and barrel racing.

“Barrel racing being so competitive we knew we needed speed in our program. So we went straight to the track for our stallion, seeking a long-smooth easy stride that is quick to get where you want to go, whether it’s between barrels, down the track, or into position to rope a steer. We all know how nice it is to ride a smooth-moving horse and that’s what we look for. If that’s not enough, our goal has always been to have leading pedigree, with willing dispositions and correct conformation. We breed for the full package.”
